A Day At Illamasqua

Last Sunday, I headed down to Illamasqua’s Liverpool store for another of their Beauty School Drop Ins. I also thought this would be a good opportunity to check out their new I’mperfection range which is a celebration of all the little imperfections which us girls normally try to hide – freckles (which I love anyway), gaps in teeth, birthmarks etc.

So the theme for the Beauty School was ‘timeless beauty’. The day started with creating a flawlessly dewy complexion, but I missed this as I was a bit late…ooops! From here, a daytime smoky eye look followed on, then immaculate lips and a choice of blusher techniques, including an 80s looking blush which I’ll definitely be trying.

The excellent Blush Up Brush

This look was achieved with the new Blush Up Brush, which is now firmly on my wish list. For me, this is the stand out item of the I’mperfection range. Probably the most recognisable product is the Intense Lipgloss in Shoot (bright green). This really is a great colour, but not especially wearable I don’t think.

Other products in the range include a selection of blushers (great, but nothing too different to existing Illamasqua products), a black liquid liner (again, not too original, but essential to everyone’s make up bag) and a lipstick in Immodest. This lipstick, although not a colour that suits me at all, is a wonderful shade of candy pink. I really want it to suit me, I really do. Perhaps I just need to experiment a bit and tone down my eye make up to make it work. I may just have to have it anyway, even if only to wear in private.

Speckled nails in Freckle

Perhaps the most talked about products, certainly by make up artists I know are the speckled nail varnishes in brown (freckle), green (mottle), pink (scarce), blue (fragile) and lilac (speckle). These are unlike any nail varnishes I’ve seen before (though I don’t pretend to be an expert by any means) and create a beautiful eggshell appearance. These are limited edition though, so buy whilst you can. The only problem is deciding which one to get first. I think I’d go for the blue. On second thoughts green. Although I really like the brown. Hmmm…
