The Emmys 2012

It’s been 2 days now since the 2012 Emmys. That’s time enough for the parties to have died down and the dresses to have been sent to the dry cleaners. I’d like to pretend that I was there, but sadly my invitation got lost in the post.

Christina Hendricks – stylish as always

With very few surprises in the winner’s stakes, I thought I’d write something about the winners in the make up stakes. Firstly, as always Christina Hendricks got it spot on. Her hair was as voluptuous as her figure and her skin flawless and porcelain. Her eyes were kept simple, with a peachy eyeshadow base and bronze over the outer corners into the crease (Visionaire hourglass eyeshadow duo in Gypsy). This was accentuated with ebony eyeliner lining the top lid and a deep pinky red lipstick – Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Icon. This is quite similar in tone to the Illamasqua Magnetism lipstick I bought the other week so I may just have to try out this look sometime. All in all, a big hurrah to Vanessa Scali – the make up artist who created this look.

Kat Dennings – fresh and beautiful

Secondly, I thought Kat Dennings looked stunning. Double hurrah to Beau Nelson for creating this look, using a mixture of NARS, MAC, Laura Mercier, Tom Ford and Giorgio Armani. With Kat’s trademark red lipstick, the rest of her make up was kept simple, fresh and youthful.  Just the softest pinky flesh tone on her eyes (Nars All About Eve) and lashings of mascara.  Interesting to note – apparently, Kat wore the exact same shade of lipstick as Christina Hendricks.  (Hmmm, my colouring is more like Kat Dennings than Christina Hendricks so maybe this is a better look for me!)

Nicole Kidman – didn’t quite work for me. What do you think?

Lastly I want to mention a look I thought was less successful, and that is Nicole Kidman. Her nude lipstick is beautiful with her hair colour, but her eyebrows didn’t match. They were a touch too dark and, along with the severe eyeliner just served to make her eyes look small, and a bit too close together. I actually quite like the touch of blue eyeliner on her lower lash line – I think it softens the whole look, but without saving it unfortunately. All in all I felt the eye make up/bone straight hair combo was a bit too harsh for my liking. Sorry Nicole.
